Diego’s Umbrella Release Video For “Old Vienna” & Announce Headlining Tour Dates
Gypsy-rockers Diego’s Umbrella has released their Raymond Cinemato directed video for “Old Vienna” online at https://youtu.be/6rr4hpOB5Xk from their new album “Edjka”. The band will hit the road for a headlining tour June 28th in San Francisco, CA running throughout July.
“The idea for the ‘Old Vienna’ video came from director Raymond Cinemato, the captain of this ship. He heard the song and wrote the script for the video, we loved it and everybody just went to work. Vaughn basically took on the role of producer and Jekyns came on as choreographer,” commented vocalist Vaughn Lindstrom. “From there we added great actors, dancers, camera masters, make up, wardrobe, lighting, carpenters etc. So much talent and hard work went into this, we really couldn’t be more grateful and proud. So let’s break the bottle across the bough of this ship and set it to sea. Vienna is ready to go and we are loving it, hope you do too!”

About Yotam-
Dropping everything you’re doing and starting from scratch is not an easy task especially when you’re in your mid 30’s.

After celebrating a successful 20 years of existence show with punk band Useless ID (Fat Wreck Chords) to a hometown crowd in Israel it was time to take a break.

Yotam set out to the States for some soul searching, the result: “California Sounds”.

After living in his car and random houses all over the States for the past 6 months in 2015, around 70 shows in with the likes of Frank Turner, Chad Price, The Ataris, Laura Jane Grace, etc…

Yotam stopped by Bob Hoag’s Flying Blanket Studios (Built to Spill, Ataris) which consists of mostly analog gear and guitars from the 1950’s, armed with 10 brand new songs and going for a vibe where you enter a studio and leave a day later with an album done like in in the early years of Bob Dylan.

“Nobody does this anymore, everyone is so caught up in sounding perfect and auto tune and it just kills character” he says, then adds “Bob was amazing, we did 1-2 takes of each song, making very quick decisions”

All live with some overdubs here and there, the album was mixed the next day and mastered a month later by Jason Livermore at The Blasting Room while Yotam passed by through Colorado for a show.

The album is more stripped down in sound and more punk in spirit than it’s predecessor “Distant Lover” which was released on Hardline Entertainment 3 years ago to be exact, as the name is stripped down as well. “Dropping my last name just felt natural after playing a show at Hermosa Beach opening for label mates The Bunny Gang featuring Nathen Maxwell of Flogging Molly, I looked at the stage times and it said Yotam 8:00–8:30 which just seemed more fitted for this album” says Yotam and adds “People just can’t remember my last name”, even Fat Mike whom I’ve known for years asked me one day “Dude, how do you say your last name again?”

Trying to catch the madness of tour life while it was happening “California Sounds” was recorded on May 4th between two US tours. It tells the story of questions that appear as we get older but aren’t ready yet to cross the line into adulthood like opener “Days of Living” , other themes dealing with new people entering our lives as others leave “Tony Sly”, “Grandfather” yet, an album is never complete without the ultimate break up song “Silver and Gold” or a lost love that didn’t come to fruition “Catastrophe” and pushing his limits to write songs on the road and completing them during drives “California Sounds”, “Young Man Bones”

“The comfort zone is the enemy” adds Yotam.

California Sounds and Distant Lover available now on Hardline.

Hoist the Colors Release “Mourners” Music Video

[fbshare]

September 27, 2016 — Los Angeles — Today Hoist the Colors released their video for “Mourners,” the title track off their newest album, Mourners, out now on Hardline Entertainment.

The Band Celebrates New Album with Dates with the Dropkick Murphys

The clip was directed and edited by Travis Miller and shot all over Los Angeles, from Downtown LA to Dockweiler State Beach near the band’s hometown in El Segundo, CA.

The video tells the story of a man haunted by remembrances of things past. A found letter propels him on a bleary eyed, midnight adventure around the city of LA, searching for something he can’t quite name.

Josh Linden, the band’s lead singer and mandolin player, explains:

“With this video, we tried to touch on the major themes from the album – loss, memory, and searching to find a place in this world. Much of your life can be spent in the dark, trying to find a light at the end of the tunnel. If you look long enough, there always comes some point of redemption. That’s what we tried to communicate with the video for this song.”

The video comes hot on the heels of the release of Mourners, the band’s third full length for label Hardline Entertainment. The twelve tracks on this new record are brought to life by soulful melodies, driving punk rhythms, and a heavy dose of twang. Country influences – mandolin, acoustic guitar, lapsteel, and spanky telecaster lines – abound.

In celebration of their album release, Hoist the Colors has been added to 3 dates with the Dropkick Murphys for the west coast leg of their 20th anniversary tour. Tour dates are as follows:

  • 9/29 – Tempe, AZ at the Marquee w/ Dropkick Murphys

  • 9/30 – Los Angeles, CA at the Hollywood Palladium w/ Dropkick Murphys

  • 10/1 – Chico, CA at the Senator Theatre w/ Dropkick Murphys

About Hoist the Colors

Hoist the Colors is a five-piece folk-influenced punk band from Los Angeles, CA. The band first gained notoriety with their 2012 label debut Miles To Go Before We Sleep, a record that earned recognition from both punk and alt-country taste-makers, and the admiration of underground music fans across the U.S. Hoist was named an artist to watch by Alternative Press magazine later that year. Their latest effort finds the band expanding on their trademark mix of folk traditions and punk energy, exploring new sounds and focusing on songcraft. For fans of The Pogues, Bad Religion, Dropkick Murphys, Lucero, and Chuck Ragan. More info at www.hoistthecolors.com and www.hardlineent.com.

Hoist the Colors Honor Former Pennywise Bassist Jason Matthew Thirsk

Hoist the Colors Honor Former Pennywise Bassist Jason Matthew Thirsk with Acoustic Version of Pennywise’s “I Can Remember”

Los Angeles-based folk-punk band Hoist the Colors today released an acoustic version of Pennywise’s “I Can Remember.”

The song was recorded on the 20th Anniversary of the Musician’s Passing and can be streamed and is available for free download here.

JMT

The band had the opportunity to play a memorial for former Pennywise bassist and songwriter Jason Matthew Thirsk on the 20th anniversary of his passing. The show was held at the Standing Room in Hermosa Beach, CA, and featured performances by south bay punk legends Pennywise and 98MUTE.

“We closed our set with ‘I Can Remember,’ a song that we love and that seemed fitting for the occasion,” said singer and mandolin player Josh Linden. “Afterwards, we really wanted to capture our version of this amazing song as a tribute to Jason and Pennywise.”

Linden elaborates: “We never knew Jason personally, but we were inspired by his music. His memory lives on, not just in those who knew and loved him, but in the countless punk rock kids across the country who heard his songs, and either felt something, or – like us – picked up instruments and started writing songs of our own. We are honored to be a small part in preserving his legacy.”

About Diego’s Umbrella

There are two kinds of people in this world: those who love Diego’s Umbrella and those who don’t know them yet. Celebrated as San Francisco’s ambassadors of Gypsy Rock, these world-renowned entertainers have created an irresistible mélange that is entirely their own.

A Diego’s Umbrella show is a singular, ecstatic experience. One concert is all it takes to becoming a believer. Night after night they effortlessly blend eastern European sounds, marching drums, beautiful harmonies and catchy hooks with a showmanship that has all the fire and unpredictability of youth, marked by a chiseled refinement of years of experience on the road.

The group’s uncanny gift for pleasing crowds, from standard clubs to huge festivals such as Outside Lands, Bottlerock and High Sierra, has earned them a zealous and ever-expanding following across the United States and Europe. Continuously touring abroad has always fed their aesthetic, and has resulted in incorporating the scales of klezmer, the strings of flamenco, and the energy of punk rock.

Their new material is some of the most exciting to date, tipping a hat to the raucous Croatian dance parties the band played in their early days while simultaneously crafting some of the best songs of their career. With a quest to fulfill and broadcast the true meaning of Gypsy Rock, Diego’s Umbrella is putting the final touches on their 5th full length album.

About Hoist The Colors

A city like Los Angeles, where so many musicians are trying to be the “Next Big Thing,” can chew bands up and spit them out.

Hoist The Colors has navigated the rough waters of this city they call home by staying true to themselves, creating music they feel passionate about while accepting the inevitable evolution of their lives and their art.

Change is something the members of Hoist The Colors fully embrace. This idea rings true with their newest effort, entitled “Mourners”, their second release on Hardline Entertainment. And while the five piece are proud of where they are, they are even more excited about what lies ahead.

“We started in my living room”, explains singer and mandolin player Joshua Linden, “This band was never meant to do much more then play a few pubs and get some free drinks. But once we started playing around LA, we developed a following as well as a love for what we were doing.”

With the spark lit and a unique take on folk-influenced punk, the band released their first full length themselves, entitled Second City”.  A year later, they found themselves back in the studio, this time signed to independent Hermosa Beach label Hardline Entertainment and recording their second LP, Miles to Go Before We Sleep”. Artistically, this proved to be a turning point for the band, as they had finally found their sound, blending a mix of Americana and Irish folk, while leaning heavily on their punk rock roots.

Soon after the album’s release, the band hit the road, playing up and down the west coast and spending a month back east, sharing the stage with acts ranging from Death By Stereo to Old Man Markley, and once again proving they could play with any band from any genre of music.

Two years after Miles to Go Before We Sleep”, the band began writing for a new album. Major obstacles hit the band, but with the upcoming release of “Mourners”, Hoist The Colors is feeling stronger and more confident than ever. “Mourners” is the most honest music the band has ever written, as the sound is solidified by soulful melodies, heartfelt lyrics, and a heavy dose of twang.

“I think on “Mourners”, we focused hard on spotlighting what we do best,” states lead guitarist Jeff Murphy. “None of us claim to be virtuoso musicians. We don’t have a gimmick or an over the top stage personas. But we can write a song. And we take songwriting extremely seriously.”

Although darker than the first two albums, ultimately “Mourners” offers hope and a message that some things must not be given up, especially one’s passion for the things that make life worth living. “Mourners”  is available for pre sale now and will be available for purchase on September 24th 2016 on iTunes and at HardlineEnt.com, and streaming on Spotify and Rhapsody.

HOIST THE COLORS is
