Hoist the Colors have released the lyric for video for “Rainier” (watch it below), the second video from their newest album, Mourners, out now on Hardline Entertainment.
The video features footage from their recent tour with the Dropkick Murphys in celebration of the band’s 20th anniversary, with stops at the Marquee in Tempe, AZ, the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, and the Senator Theatre in Chico, CA.
Although “Rainier” is a love story, the clip is meant to suggest a second layer of meaning. Jeff Murphy, the band’s guitarist explains:
“As the name suggests, this song is a love story set in the Pacific Northwest. But the images we chose for this lyric video give the song a new twist – it could just as easily be interpreted as a reflection of our love for playing music. Music is essential to us. It’s a passion, at times a curse, and as necessary as breathing. We think the clip does a good job of capturing that.”
The track expands on the band’s trademark punk-folk sound, building from a simple thumping acoustic pattern and sparse mandolin line to open, rousing choruses.
About Hoist the Colors-
Hoist the Colors is a five-piece folk-influenced punk band from Los Angeles, CA. The band first gained notoriety with their 2012 label debut Miles To Go Before We Sleep, a record that earned recognition from both punk and alt-country taste-makers, and the admiration of underground music fans across the U.S. Hoist was named an artist to watch by Alternative Press magazine later that year. Their latest effort finds the band expanding on their trademark mix of folk traditions and punk energy, exploring new sounds and focusing on songcraft. For fans of The Pogues, Bad Religion, Dropkick Murphys, Lucero, and Chuck Ragan.

Southern California’s own folk-influenced punk band Hoist The Colors are set to release their 3rd full length record titled “Mourners” set to release September 24th via Hardline Entertainment. Pre Sale is live now!
A city like Los Angeles, where so many musicians are trying to be the “Next Big Thing,” can chew bands up and spit them out.
Hoist The Colors has navigated the rough waters of this city they call home by staying true to themselves, creating music they feel passionate about while accepting the inevitable evolution of their lives and their art.
Change is something the members of Hoist The Colors fully embrace. This idea rings true with their newest effort, entitled “Mourners”, their second release on Hardline Entertainment. And while the five piece are proud of where they are, they are even more excited about what lies ahead.
“We started in my living room”, explains singer and mandolin player Joshua Linden, “This band was never meant to do much more then play a few pubs and get some free drinks. But once we started playing around LA, we developed a following as well as a love for what we were doing.”
With the spark lit and a unique take on folk-influenced punk, the band released their first full length themselves, entitled “Second City”. A year later, they found themselves back in the studio, this time signed to independent Hermosa Beach label Hardline Entertainment and recording their second LP, “Miles to Go Before We Sleep”. Artistically, this proved to be a turning point for the band, as they had finally found their sound, blending a mix of Americana and Irish folk, while leaning heavily on their punk rock roots.
Soon after the album’s release, the band hit the road, playing up and down the west coast and spending a month back east, sharing the stage with acts ranging from Death By Stereo to Old Man Markley, and once again proving they could play with any band from any genre of music.
Two years after “Miles to Go Before We Sleep”, the band began writing for a new album. Major obstacles hit the band, but with the upcoming release of “Mourners”, Hoist The Colors is feeling stronger and more confident than ever. “Mourners” is the most honest music the band has ever written, as the sound is solidified by soulful melodies, heartfelt lyrics, and a heavy dose of twang.
“I think on “Mourners”, we focused hard on spotlighting what we do best,” states lead guitarist Jeff Murphy. “None of us claim to be virtuoso musicians. We don’t have a gimmick or an over the top stage personas. But we can write a song. And we take songwriting extremely seriously.”
Although darker than the first two albums, ultimately “Mourners” offers hope and a message that some things must not be given up, especially one’s passion for the things that make life worth living. “Mourners” is available for pre sale now and will be available for purchase on September 24th 2016 on iTunes and at HardlineEnt.com, and streaming on Spotify and Rhapsody.

“So yea we finally captured live which a lot of people claim sounds better than our studio recordings. I believe the stage is sacred place where the soul is bared, dancing and singing are forged together to make human organic splendor… Energy absorbed from the crowd ain’t nothin to sneeze at.. One take, one band, one record.”
The Darlings are four west coast rock n rollers with a vintage modern attack and down home southern roots. Formed in 2005 by Buddy Darling (singer/guitar) and Chris Kranes (bass) in Redondo Beach CA.
The Darlings continue to respectfully nod to their deep retro-fittings, but effortlessly draw their listeners into uncharted territory; the aromatic essence of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Blues, Punk and Americana that seeps from their sound, seems to have been simmering in a crock-pot full of Black Sabbath’s insidious darkness and Chuck Berry’s dexterous swagger.
Birmingham England’s own veteran punk trio Templeton Pek premier the video for ” Fractures” off their fourth full length record entitled “New Horizons” Out Now via Hardline Entertainment. Headline and support tour dates below!
“Fractures” is fundamentally about the flaws we have in human nature. The initial line of thought was the state of the world in how we treat animals as a whole after watching documentaries like The Cove… which again is highlighted recently with the inexcusable barbaric events in Faroe Islands slaughtering because of a tradition. But the theme expands into environment and how we behave towards each other too, it seems human nature is hell bent on destroying itself and anything around it. The quote from Bob Irwin in the song sums the point up well, “it’s way past time we drew a line in the sand and we say enough is enough” and we start thinking about acting positively on our negatives before its too late to undo.” Neal Mitchell-Vocals/Bass

The 11 track album was recorded by Ken Seaton at The Porch in Hermosa Beach, CA and mixed by Cameron Webb (Motörhead, Sum 41, Lit, Pennywise) at Maple Studios in Santa Ana, CA.

“….“New Horizons” convinces you with fast Post-Punk-Songs, somewhere in the middle between Rise Against and Face To Face. Definitely worth checking out!.” -FUZE MAGAZINE
“….A mixture of melancholy and strength, that we haven´t heard from the UK since the best days of Therapy?, back in the mid-nineties…if you can resist melodies like in ´Fractures´, you´re a hopeless case…a great record that invites you to dive in deeper with every new spin.” -ROCK HARD MAGAZINE
“….Birmingham Trio deliver the goods for a fourth time in true punk style….infectiously radio friendly, this album Oozes in upbeat and overly catchy choruses on each track making it hard to pick out a distinctive favorite.” -BIG CHEESE MAGAZINE
“….This is all Huge Choruses, Saccharine lyrics, emotive vocals and quick tempos slickly produced and chockfull of ear candy.” POWERPLAY ROCK AND METAL MAGAZINE

Built with a DIY ethic engrained into them, the band even self recorded and self produced their sophomore album “Scratches & Scars” in 2011 to critical acclaim.
Whilst “Signs” was their most successful album to date, behind the scenes there was turmoil occurring without the bands knowledge resulting in an unamicable split with their management company as it collapsed mid campaign.
The band began writing again in early 2014, and now in contact with Ken Seaton of LA based label Hardline Entertainment who had expressed interest in the band. Accepting his offer of recording a new album in his studio The Porch in California, the band flew to the US and spent over a month living and recording in Hermosa beach, Los Angeles, hometown of Black Flag, Descendents, All and Pennywise. Following a productive session in LA, Cameron Webb (Motörhead, Sum 41, Lit, Pennywise, Ignite) then came onboard and mixed the album in Maple Studios, CA.
The band states: “Being in a town so rich in punk rock and specifically melodic punk rock inspired us to record “New Horizons” and make it sound the way it does. It’s definitely a new era for us as band on so many levels.”
The album is about using and building on the past, and that’s exactly the drive that the band has. Armed with a new label, new management, a new member and a new batch of songs that represent and sound like a band that has a new lease in life, the album title speaks for itself.
“Primarily it is a positive album about going back to writing songs that made us want to be in a band, or listen to bands in the first place and its an album about moving forward.”
